The Duolingo English Test is computer-adaptive, which means that the test difficulty changes depending on how you are performing from question to question.
You can expect to receive a variety of question types that include speaking, writing, reading, and listening challenges. Near the end of the test, you will be asked to answer open-ended questions which require a spoken or written response. These questions are computer-graded and will be a part of your overall score.
Finally, after the test is completed, you will have the chance to showcase your speaking and writing skills to the institutions you’re applying to. You will receive one speaking prompt and one writing prompt. You will be given one to three minutes to respond to the speaking prompt and three to five minutes to respond to the writing prompt. Please note that any institution that you share your scores with will have access to these responses.
