You will need to use your phone camera to record your keyboard and computer screen during the test. To set this up:
1. Make sure your phone is fully charged.
2. Open the Duolingo English Test desktop app and proceed until instructed to set up your phone.
3. Scan the QR code.
4. Set your phone to do not disturb. You should not receive any calls or notifications during the test.
5. Allow access to your phone's camera.
6. Lean your phone against a heavy object to the left or right of your computer.
7. Position your phone far enough away to see your entire screen and keyboard.
This is a new feature that may not be available for all test takers immediately. If you do not see instructions to set up your phone as a camera, it is not required for you yet.
What if my phone isn't fully charged?
You can plug your phone into a charger during setup and leave it charging throughout the test. Depending on where the charging port is, you may need to lay your phone horizontally or turn it upside down to record. The camera alignment will automatically adjust.
What if my phone goes to sleep during the test?
Once your phone is set up as a secondary camera, it will remain on for the duration of the test.
What if I don't have a phone with a camera?
A phone with a camera is a requirement to take the test. If you don't have one, you can borrow one.
