Interactive Writing asks you to “Write about the topic below for 5 minutes,” and then “Write a follow-up response for 3 minutes.”
For step 1, you will be given a written prompt. Then, you will respond in writing.
For step 2, you will be given a follow-up prompt based on your initial response. Then, you will respond to this second prompt in writing.
The directions and prompt for step 1 will appear for 30 seconds before the timer begins. You can also click CONTINUE to manually advance.
The directions for step 2 will appear when the second timer begins.

Tips
Interacting With the Question
- You will be able to see the current step’s question as you write.
- During step 2, you will be able to see your initial response.
- Proofread carefully! Do not click CONTINUE until you have checked your response for the current step and are ready to submit.
- Once you have finished writing your response, press TAB to select CONTINUE, and ENTER/RETURN to click CONTINUE.
Responding to the Question
- Use all of the time you have to make sure your responses are the best they can be.
- Write as much as you can, as long as you are using English effectively and it is relevant to the topic.
