Test length

You will need about 1 hour of uninterrupted free time to take the Duolingo English Test.

Adaptive Testing

The Duolingo English Test is a computer-adaptive test, which means it has a few differences from other tests you may have taken.

Varying difficulty

The difficulty of some questions changes dynamically throughout the test. Therefore, some questions may seem easier or harder than others—that is normal!

Adaptive Length

The number of test questions varies. The test will administer more or fewer questions according to the grading engine’s confidence in your score.

Unique Experience

The test questions draw from an extremely large pool. It is highly unlikely that you will encounter the same question twice, no matter how many times you take the exam.
